Dialog Kebijakan dalam Mempercepat Transformasi Industri Hijau di Indonesia: Dari Efisiensi Sumber Daya ke Sirkularitas di Sektor-sektor Utama
Jakarta, Indonesia - In collaboration with the Ministry of National Development Planning/BAPPENAS, UNIDO, UNITAR, and UNDP Indonesia under the UN-PAGE Project, organized a policy dialogue titled “The Policy Dialogue on Accelerating a Green Industry Transformation in Indonesia,” held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the Sumatera and Java Room, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Jakarta. This event underscored the escalating focus on circular economy policies in the nation. Driven by factors like resource challenges, waste management issues, and collaborative efforts involving the government, private sector, and consumers, Indonesia has been making strides toward a more sustainable and circular economic model. The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas had actively worked to integrate circular economy indicators into the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN) for 2025-2029, recognizing circular economic policies as pivotal to the green economic transition and low carbon development.
This policy dialogue aimed to inspire actionable steps towards a green industry by fostering discussions on approaches, methodologies, and tools for promoting sustainable practices, drawing insights from global best practices and experiences specific to Indonesia. The policy dialogue involved key stakeholders and focused on the circular economy concept, addressing opportunities and challenges in advancing green industrial initiatives in Indonesia. Emphasis was placed on identifying methods and approaches to overcome challenges faced by the industry.
Dignitaries including Mr. Thibaut Portevin, Head of Cooperation of EU Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam; Mr. Salil Dutt, Chief Technical Advisor of UNIDO; Mr. Angus McKay, Director of Planet Division of UNITAR; and Dr. Medrilzam from BAPPENAS inaugurated the workshop. This event was attended by colleagues working in the fertilizer and iron and steel industries, academics, and other development partners.
This activity successfully realized various objectives, foremost among them being the refinement of the circular economy roadmap and action plan, incorporating valuable insights from industry stakeholders. Furthermore, the dialogue actively pursued commitment from stakeholders within the fertilizer and iron and steel industries, urging them to embrace and implement Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) alongside circular economy practices. This commitment signifies a pivotal step toward the practical application of sustainable measures in these crucial sectors.
