EV Assessment of Jobs and Skill Needs (Available in English Only)
Electric vehicle (EV) production and adoption is a key element of Indonesia’s industrial policy. Formally initiated via Presidential Decree No. 55 in 2019 (then amended with Presidential Decree No. 79 in 2023) ‘On the acceleration of the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) program for electric mobility’, the importance of the electric vehicle industry is confirmed through the long term national development plan (RPJPN, stipulated under Law 59 of 2024). While the latter envisions the green economy to be one of the drivers of economic transformation, the EV industry is recognized as pivotal not only because of its potential for energy transition and emission reduction, but also because it contributes to the objective of down streaming industrial production and adding value to products (instead of exporting raw materials), notably via the local production of batteries. By doing so, it then facilitates the desired increase in labour force productivity.
