Indonesia–China 2025 South-South Exchange: Advancing Green Finance, Biodiversity, and Circular Economy (Available in English Only)

The South-South and Triangular Cooperation Exchange between Indonesia and China, held from 4–9 July 2025 in China, and facilitated by PAGE, BIOFIN, and UNDP China, deepened bilateral collaboration on green finance, biodiversity conservation, and the circular economy. Building on the momentum of the first exchange in Indonesia, this mission combined high-level policy dialogues with Indonesia’s participation in the Eco Forum Global Guiyang 2025, where the country presented its leadership on Biodiversity Sukuk, Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF), and Biodiversity Finance Plan (BFP). Delegates from the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) Indonesia, Chinese national and local authorities, multilateral development banks, academia, and the private sector engaged in targeted discussions, complemented by field visits showcasing China’s innovative practices in ecological restoration, sustainable land management, green technologies, and circular waste systems.

The exchange delivered strong outcomes: enhanced awareness, expanded partnerships, practical learning from on-the-ground demonstrations, and renewed commitments for future cooperation. It also generated lessons on effective multi-stakeholder engagement, integrating policy dialogues with field exposure, and aligning national initiatives with global frameworks like the SDGs and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Looking ahead, the program proposes developing a dedicated China–Indonesia private-sector dialogue platform, piloting innovative biodiversity finance mechanisms, refining exchange designs for efficiency, and scaling knowledge-sharing across PAGE partner countries.
