
Workshop on Occupation Maps for the Function Area of Biodiversity Conservation and Protected Area Management in Sustainable Tourism
Jakarta, Indonesia - Following up the Green Jobs Forum on Transitioning to Green and Blue Economy: Learning from North Sulawesi in September 2023 in Manado, the ILO Indonesia Country Office under PAGE programme, is developing an occupation map for the function area of biodiversity conservation and protected area management in sustainable tourism. About 57 occupations have been identified in the occupation map from current and future jobs within the Indonesia Qualification Framework. The occupation map is important for those working in biodiversity and protected areas without competence recognition for their jobs and future careers.
The workshop on Occupation Maps for the Function Area of Biodiversity Conservation and Protected Area Management in Sustainable Tourism aimed to validate findings and gather input from stakeholders for new occupations not yet listed in the draft report being developed. In total, 45 participants (25 offline and 20 online) attended the workshop, representing the Ministry of National Development Planning/BAPPENAS, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Employer Association (APINDO), trade unions, academia, and professional associations. The workshop resulted in 25 more occupations being added to the list. These occupation mapping is important for increase labour needs, sustainable career transition, specific training needs, equality and inclusivity, regional interests, and sustainable economic growth in the context of sustainable tourism development.
The Green Jobs Forum held in September 2023 was a collaboration between the ILO Indonesia and PAGE. The Green Jobs Forum brought forward the concept of a “Jobs and Biodiversity Initiative” as a cooperation platform for ASEAN Member States on joint action to promote green jobs and just transition in protected areas, reserves, and fragile ecosystems, ensuring that conservation and socioeconomic targets remain human-centred and achievable. The Green Jobs Forum and the occupation maps development are also supported by the ILO Japan Multi-Bilateral Programme under Social Safety Net Funds.
