
Achieving a Just Transition through Stronger Collaboration in Indonesia: A Social Dialogue on Just Transition for the Energy and Textile & Garment Sectors
PAGE Indonesia - PAGE Indonesia (through ILO) supported a workshop entitled “Achieving a Just Transition through Stronger Collaboration in Indonesia: A Social Dialogue on Just Transition for the Energy and Textile & Garment Sectors”, Jakarta, 24-25 October 2022.
This two-day workshop is part of capacity building activities for the stakeholders, co-organized by the Decent Work in the Garment Supply Chain in Asia (DWGSCA) project funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) Indonesia. The activity was aimed to facilitate a social dialogue process between Government, Business, and Workers, while promoting their knowledge and capacity in conducting a just transition planning.
The Workshop was attended by representatives from the government of Indonesia (Ministry of National Development Planning and Ministry of Manpower), Labour Unions (KSBSI, KSPSI-AITUC, KSPI, KSPN, KSarbumusi, and Workers Alliance for Climate Change and Just Transition Issues), and employer/business associations (APINDO). The session was very dynamic and there was a collective call for strengthening social dialogue mechanism, one of them through establishing an independent committee for a Just Transition.
The 1st Day Workshop focused on the energy sector in which PAGE Indonesia works. It was divided into three sessions. In the session one, just transition for the future of work and the impact of the coal-phase-out on Jobs in Southeast Asia were presented. While on session two the components of just transition planning as well as key findings of the green jobs policy assessment in Indonesia were presented and followed by discussion with constituents on just transition planning process in the country. The workshop includes group work activity and reporting back to the plenary.
The workshop was opened and closed by Ms. Michiko Miyamoto (Country Director of ILO Indonesia and Timor Leste) and facilitated by Mr. Kees van der Ree (ILO Senior Expert), Dr. Cristina Martinez (Senior Specialist for Environment and Decent Jobs), Dr. Samantha Sharpe (Associate Professor at the University Technology Sydney), Mr. Tendy Gunawan (ILO National Program Officer), Ms. Lailly Prihatiningtyas (Consultant for the Green Jobs Energy Assessment in Indonesia), and Ms. Diah Ratna Pratiwi (National Project Coordinator PAGE Indonesia).
