Green Economy Expo 2024: Driving Innovation and Circular Economy for Indonesia's Future
Jakarta, Indonesia - The Ministry of National Development Planning (Kementerian PPN/Bappenas) successfully organized the Green Economy Expo 2024, themed "Advancing Technology, Innovation, & Circularity." The event took place over three days, from July 3-5, 2024, at the Cendrawasih Room, Jakarta Convention Center. The Expo was inaugurated with the launch of the Circular Economy Roadmap and Action Plan and the Grand Design Food Loss and Waste Management, which are set to guide stakeholders in the transition to a circular economy from 2025 to 2045.
The Circular Economy is a key strategy in the implementation of a green economy, aiming to achieve the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045. The launch of these significant documents was officiated by the Minister of National Development Planning, with invitations extended to stakeholders in the circular economy, including officials from various Ministries/Agencies, business and industry players, civil society organizations, academics, and the media. The Green Economy Expo 2024 also featured an extensive exhibition showcasing green technologies and products. The exhibition included participation from approximately 65-100 entities, such as private companies, start-ups, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The Green Economy Expo Bappenas 2024 serves as a platform for showcasing innovative green technologies, policies, and practices. It brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including government officials, industry leaders, academia, and civil society. The expo aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, foster partnerships, and highlight successful case studies in green economy practices.
PAGE Indonesia, as one of the development partners of the Bappenas, actively supported the Green Economy Expo 2024, contributing to the event's success and the promotion of sustainable practices and innovations. The PAGE project’s intervention at the Green Economy Expo 2024 marks a significant milestone in supporting Indonesia’s transition towards a sustainable, circular economy. This initiative aligns with Indonesia's Vision 2045, aiming to achieve a sovereign, advanced, and sustainable archipelago. The Expo, themed "Advancing Technology, Innovation, & Circularity," provided a platform for unveiling the Circular Economy Roadmap and Action Plan, pivotal components of Indonesia's green economic transformation.
The PAGE project’s involvement was multifaceted, emphasizing the integration of low-carbon development and climate resilience strategies into the circular economy framework. By promoting the 10R principles (refuse, rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle, repair, refurbish, remanufacture, repurpose, recycle, and recover), the project aims to enhance resource efficiency, minimize waste generation, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These principles are critical to shifting away from extractive economic practices towards a more sustainable, circular model.
During the Expo, significant attention was given to technological and policy innovations essential for driving this transformation. The event featured keynote speeches from high-profile figures, including the Minister Coordinator for Economic Affairs and the UNDP Resident Representative in Indonesia, who underscored the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration. The signing of strategic cooperation agreements, such as those for food loss and waste management and the development of circular textile modules, further solidified the commitment to advancing the circular economy.
These initiatives are directly linked to the achievement of PAGE Indonesia's project outputs. By fostering an environment conducive to green investments and promoting the development of circular economy sectors, PAGE is instrumental in accelerating Indonesia’s transition to a low-carbon, sustainable economy. The Expo’s focus on leveraging partnerships for effective rollout and the strategic discussions held during the "circular talks" sessions are key components in building a robust ecosystem for sustainable development.
The PAGE project's sustainability plan is deeply embedded in these efforts, ensuring that the interventions at the Expo contribute to long-term goals. By facilitating knowledge exchange, encouraging innovation, and supporting the implementation of comprehensive policies, PAGE aims to create enduring impacts that extend beyond the Expo. This holistic approach not only supports Indonesia's national objectives but also aligns with global sustainable development goals, demonstrating PAGE's commitment to fostering a greener, more sustainable future.
